CWF Spotlight
Eden Landing Restoration
California Wildlife Foundation is working with DFG to implement the Initial Stewardship Plan for the restoration of the salt ponds, formerly owned by Cargill Salt, at the 850-acre Eden Landing Ecological Reserve in southeast San Francisco Bay. The plan focuses on the construction of large gates to circulate bay water through highly saline ponds to dilute and eventually release acceptable salt water back into the bay.
Habitat Restoration
Outer Bair Island Wetlands Restoration, Maintenance and Monitoring Fund
CWF manages a mitigation fund to purchase and restore 42 acres of seasonal wetlands and enhance 160 acres of tidal marsh on DFG's Bair Island Ecological Reserve, Redwood City Harbor. The fund, created to mitigate impacts from expansion of the San Francisco International Airport, also supports a 10-year monitoring program for the mitigation project.
Lake Tahoe Basin Restoration
In partnership with DFG Sacramento Valley-Central Sierra Region and the California Tahoe Conservancy, CWF is working to restore degraded streams and carry out environmental education projects in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Recently these partnership efforts resulted in the restoration of a meadow in the Polaris Creek area of Tahoe. The meadow had been buried by thousands of cubic yards of spoils from road construction years ago. After the spoils were removed, the land was revegetated.
Youth in the Outdoors
Youth in the Outdoors is a partnership to facilitate the conservation, enhancement, and restoration of our fish and wildlife and habitats through the education and participation of our youth in California's outdoor heritage.
